Sybrina Fulton to Keynote Grambling State Women’s History Convocation

Campus Welcomes Trayvon Martin’s Mother to Keynote University Women’s History Celebration

GRAMBLING, LA – March 12, 2019 – Today, Grambling State University announced that Trayvon Martin’s mother, Sybrina Fulton will keynote the University’s Women’s History Convocation at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, March 21, 2019.sybrina-fulton-trayvon-martin-mothers-day-800x450

Since her son’s death, Fulton has become an inspiring spokesperson for social change across the country.

“Mrs. Fulton is an important voice for social change today,” said GSU President Rick Gallot. “We are excited for our students to witness her example of how we can all champion progress for our community.”

In addition to her national social justice work, Mrs. Fulton continues to live and work in Miami-Dade County, Florida where she advocates and help coordinate housing for those in need.

Campus and community members are invited to attend this month’s convocation.

GRAMBLING, LA – January 24, 2019 – Today, Grambling State University announced CNN Commentator and history-making South Carolina Legislator, Bakari Sellers will keynote the University’s Black History Convocation at 11:00 a.m. on February 19, 2019.

Sellers, an HBCU graduate, is well-known for making history in 2006 when, at just 22 years old, he defeated a 26-year incumbent State Representative to become the youngest member of the South Carolina State Legislature and the youngest African American elected official in the nation. Dyb8d0SU0AAm7WYFrom GSUTigers.com |GRAMBLING, La. | Shakyla Hill etched her name in the college women’s basketball record books on Saturday afternoon as the Grambling State University women’s basketball team rolled past Arkansas-Pine Bluff, 77-57, in a Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) game at the Fredrick C. Hobdy Assembly Center.
 
Hill posted her second career quadruple-double, a feat never captured before in the NCAA Division I era. The senior guard from Little Rock, Ark. posted her first quadruple-double in a win over Alabama State on Jan. 3, 2018. At the time last year, Hill joined Sonja Tate (Arkansas State), Veronica Pettry (Loyola-Chicago) and Jackie Spenser (Louisville) as the only NCAA Division I women’s basketball players to register a quadruple-double. Grambling State University Unveils New Digital Library Design

New Facility to Deliver 50,000 Square Feet of Student and Community Information Space

GRAMBLING, LA – January 31, 2019 – Today, Grambling State University revealed designs for a new digital library that will add more than 50,000 square feet of learning space to the University, City of Grambling, and North Louisiana community.

“We see this new facility as an information beacon on a hill,” said President Rick Gallot of Grambling State. “We are grateful to the students, University of Louisiana System, the Board of Regents, our Governor and the legislators who are collaborating to make this vision a reality for our campus.”

GSU Alumna Dana Williams, Ph.D. Appointed As Interim Dean Of Howard’s Graduate School

Dana Williams Ph.DWASHINGTON – January 30, 2019 – Howard University has appointed Dana Williams, Ph.D., as the Interim Dean of the Howard University Graduate School. Williams serves as the chair of the Department of English and a professor of African American literature. She received her bachelor of arts degree in English from Grambling State University and her master of arts and doctoral degrees in English from Howard University.

Dr. David Ponton to Lead Athletics at Grambling State University
