Grambling, LA – Dr, Adriel A. Hilton, GSU Chief of Staff and Executive Assistant to the President, has been accepted into the Higher Education Leadership Foundation (H.E.L.F.), Gamma Cohort. Additionally, Hilton received one of five scholarships to the third H.E.L.F. Leadership Institute on the campus of Miles College from June 2-5, 2016 in Birmingham, AL.

H.E.L.F. selected 25 of the 78 applicants to fill its Gamma Cohort. Fellows were chosen based on each applicant’s diverse interests, institutional affiliation and background in order to encourage a rich exchange and engagement among the fellows. The most important deciding factor was his or her strong belief in the purpose and mission of Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs).

HBCUs represent an important sector of American higher education. This four-day conference will give the 25 participants access to cutting-edge ideas, innovative insights and mentorship from IIBCU presidents and other leaders, hoping to lead to transformative change in their work and ultimately in the IIBCU community. This special cohort will also engage with a professional network of driven and talented individuals who share their interest in and passion for IIBCUs.

“Organizations like and the leadership institute it puts on are critical to my training and that of my peers in order to ensure the sustainability of these institutions.” Hilton added, We owe it to our ancestors who fought against the worst odds to make higher education a possibility for young Black men and women at a time when no one else thought it was important.”

Hilton is an academic product of HBCUs, having earned his bachelor’s degree in business administration (finance) from Morehouse College., Atlanta, GA., a master’s of applied social science (public administration emphasis] from Florida A&M University, Tallahassee, FL; and a PhD in higher education (administration) from Morgan State University, Baltimore, MD. He has received many awards and honors for his work related to public policy and higher education with particular emphasis on minorities’ access and achievement in higher education.
