GSU’s Annual Faculty Art Show

Grambling State University’s Dunbar Gallery is hosting the annual faculty exhibition from November 7 – December 8, 2016.  The exhibition is comprised of works by faculty members: Drék Davis, Larry Holston, Donna McGee, and staff member, Mr. Terence C. Williams, II.

Re-purposing is an important component of Davis mixed media works.  He reinterprets the black Sambo image using re-purposed wooden chairs with bits of modern implements attached.  His idea questions whether stereotypical imagery drives the future or whether technology simply becomes another avenue to promote stereotype.   Larry Holston’s work attempts to see positive pathways through challenges and presents positive role models.  Donna McGee’s nature themed works offer a counterbalance for a world where we are bombarded by social media and other invasive forms of technology. Terence C.  Williams, II’s observations provide a satirical commentary on the destructive obsessions of pop culture and their impact on the social construct.

The public is invited to interact with the artists at a closing reception to be held on November 29th, 2016 from 4:30 – 6:00 PM in Dunbar Gallery.  The gallery is located on Hutchinson Street on the GSU campus.  Gallery hours are from 8 – 4:30 Monday – Thursday and 8:00 – 12:00 on Friday.  Accommodations are available for large groups and special needs persons.  For more information please call 318-274-2274.
