Honors College to sponsor “Mock Law School Class”

Earl Lester Cole Honors College to sponsor “Mock Law School Class”

Honors College Moc Law Class featuring professors from Southern University Law Center.

The Earl Lester Cole Honors College will be sponsoring a “Mock Law School Class” featuring professors from Southern University Law Center. The class provides a great opportunity for students to observe and participate in critical thinking and reasoning through the eyes of the Socratic Method. Students who have an interest in becoming a lawyer will experience firsthand what to expect in a first year law class.

Guest professors will be Michael C. Garrard, Arthur E. Stallworth, and Alvin Washington. Garrard is a graduate of Louisiana State University’s Paul M. Herbert Law Center and Georgetown University Law Center. Stallworth is a graduate of Vanderbilt University and Southern University Law Center. Washington is a graduate of Grambling State University and Southern University Law Center. All three professors have a wealth of experiences that will provide insight into the field of law.

When the opportunity became available to have these distinguished gentlemen conduct the “Mock Law School Class” for our students, we sieged the moment, said Dr. Ellen D. Smiley, Dean of the Earl Lester Cole Honors College. We have been fortunate to have a number of our students who have graduated from Grambling State University go on to earn their law degrees from Campbell Law School in North Carolina, Florida A & M, Southern University, University of Vermont, Texas Southern, Howard, University of Florida, North Carolina Central and others. We welcome opportunities that increase our ability to send more students to graduate and professional schools, said Smiley.

The “Mock Class” is scheduled for Monday, January 26, 2015, at 5:30 p.m. in the School of Nursing Auditorium. Students are encouraged to attend and the public is cordially invited. For additional information contact Dr. Ellen Smiley at 318-274-2114.
