Dr. Ellen D. Smiley, Dean of Grambling State University’s Earl Lester Cole Honors College was selected as the President of the Louisiana Collegiate Honors Council (LCHC) during its Annual Conference. The conference, which was hosted by the University of Louisiana at Lafayette, was held March 20-21. The keynote speaker for the conference was Dr. Julia Frederick, Dean of the University of Lafayette Honors Program.   Honors students and Honors Deans and Directors from throughout the state attended the conference. Students competed in the Quiz Bowl competition, presented papers and posters of their research and other projects. The council is made up of 16 colleges and universities that are members of the University of Louisiana System, Southern University System, Louisiana Community and Technical College System and Louisiana State University System. Dr. Julia Frederick of the University of Louisiana at Lafayette was reelected as secretary-treasurer and Professor Brett Heintz of Delgado Community College was elected as the Vice President. Smiley said it is an honor to have been chosen to serve as president of the council. I am looking forward to working with the universities to strengthen the “honors bond” that connects us. Grambling State University will host the conference in 2016.
