Campus Security Update

Today shortly after midnight, Louisiana Tech and Grambling State University police were notified of a Facebook post concerning the threat of a shooting at both Louisiana Tech University and Grambling State University.

Louisiana Tech Police Chief Randal Hermes reported the threat to the Louisiana State Police, whose intelligence unit then began the investigation of the threat.

At the same time, Ruston Police Department and the Tech Police Department visited the subject’s apartment and found no weapons in the apartment. The subject said his Facebook account was hacked, and the threatening message was sent from the hacker.

Local officers then determined that there was no credible threat at this point.

Local officers including the GSU Police, Tech Police, Ruston Police, and the Lincoln Parish Sheriff’s Office remain on alert as additional patrols and police presence are ongoing.

The safety of our campus community is our top priority. Please be aware of your surroundings and report any suspicious activity you may see to the authorities.  GSU Police can be reached at (318) 274-2222.

Thank you for your attention at this time.
