Grambling, LA – Grambling State University alumni and members of the Student Government Association are making the campus safer and more beautiful by painting handicapped spots, crosswalks and parking spots along Main Street as a community service project for the Grambling University National Alumni Association 2015 National Convention.

Jonathan Wallace, president of the Student Government Association, said students were happy to take on this project to beautify Main Street.

“This is the first year we are doing a community service project with GUNAA,” Wallace said. “Main Street is a big concern for students, with it being the busiest street on campus, so we have taken the initiative to start the process to re-paint the parking spots and crosswalks.”

LaQuieta Huey, a 2000 graduate of GSU who is now a materials engineer, wanted to be part of the community service project, because she is a firm believer in giving back to the university that helped her achieve her dream of working at NASA.

“I am a proud Grambling alumnus,” Huey said. “I am here to give back to the university, because the university has given me so much.”
