NCAA Certification Self-Study

Welcome to the website for the Grambling's 2006-2007 NCAA Certification Self-Study.

The Self-Study is a year-long review of the College's program of intercollegiate athletics. The purpose of the Self-Study is to articulate the role of the athletics program in the campus community -- what it has been, what it is currently, and what we hope for it to be.

The Self-Study will examine how our athletics program helps to fulfill the mission of the larger institution of which it is a vital part. It will take a close look at how the College's athletics program and academic environment provide mutual support for our student-athletes. Moreover, it will embrace and reaffirm our commitment to equity in athletics. Most importantly, it will accomplish all of these goals with an eye toward continuous improvement. One of the greatest strengths of our athletics program, we believe, is the degree to which the entire community is invested in it. Community members will be given the opportunity both to participate directly in the Self-Study process and to give feedback once a draft of the Self-Study report has been completed. Ultimately, the Self-Study will reflect the diverse perspectives of the many individuals who make up our community, and identify concrete ways that we can make our athletics program stronger.

The Self-Study process will be led by a Steering Committee composed of students, faculty, and administrators. The President of the College will be a member of the Steering Committee, and Dr. Obadiah Simmons will serve as its Chair. Three (or more) faculty members on the Steering Committee, in turn, will each chair one of three Subcommittees: Governance and Commitment to Rules Compliance; Academic Integrity; and Equity and Welfare. Subcommittees will be made up of additional students, faculty, and administrators, and will meet as needed to complete their respective areas of the Self-Study. They will report to the Steering Committee, which meets monthly.

This website is intended to be a forum for the campus community to learn more about the NCAA Self-Study and recertification process and provide feedback to members of the Steering Committee and Subcommittees as the process goes forward. It contains an outline of the objectives of the Self-Study process, a list of committee membership, a timeline for the Self-Study, links to other resources, and a page where community members are able to provide comments or suggestions. We encourage you to use it, and we thank you for visiting.
