Visit Grambling State University!

Grambling State University’s vision is to be one of the premiere universities in the world that embraces educational opportunity and diversity. During 2009, the university continued to enjoy national and international acclaim for its academic and athletic programs, and its marching band. Most people will only get the opportunity to experience the excellence of Grambling State University through media outlets and word-of-mouth. By scheduling a guided campus tour, you can see what this prestigious institution has to offer--up close and personal.

Tour Overview

Visit and explore Grambling State University. Campus tours for prospective students, their families, and groups are offered throughout the year. Reservations are required for all tours. Campus tours are led by extremely knowledgeable student tour guides who follow a carefully choreographed route designed to highlight key areas of the campus. The tour guides provide historical information on campus buildings and facilities. Our guests will have an opportunity to tour key areas of the campus that include the new residence halls, our new state-of-the-art Assembly Center, the University bookstore, the food court (which houses vendors like Burger King and Starbucks), the Eddie G. Robinson Museum, and other facets of the university.

NOTE:   The Eddie G. Robinson Museum will be closed Sundays & Mondays!

Our walking tour takes about an hour and a half, and requires comfortable walking shoes. Riding tours are done for large groups on the buses in which they arrive. Riding tours can be accommodated for small groups if advanced notice is provided, and if campus transportation is available.

Frequently Asked Questions

Will the tour guide be able to answer specific questions about my department? Can I talk to an academic advisor during my visit?

Our tour guides are trained to provide a general base of information; they will not have answers to specific questions about the various majors. While our campus tour does provide for visits to academic departments, it is not structured so that advising can take place during the tour. We recommend that upon confirming your tour, contact your department of interest and make arrangements to meet after your tour.

Can you accommodate large groups?

Group tours are welcome; however, we required a minimum two-week notice. Tours for large groups (10 or more) will be conducted on the bus on which the group arrives. We require 1 chaperone for every 10 students. As our campus tour program is also a recruiting tool, when completing the tour request form, we ask that the prospective student information be completed for all juniors and seniors that will be visiting the campus. If this information is not available at the time your tour is scheduled, it can be submitted upon your arrival.

Spring recruitment is our busiest time of the year, as we give extensive campus tours to our newly-admitted students and their families during this period. For this reason, we may not be able to accommodate visits from elementary and middle school groups during this peak period.

Is on-campus lodging available?

Our campus tour program does not accommodate overnight guests. However, a list of convenient, affordable hotels is listed below:

What if I can’t get to Grambling on a weekday?

Campus tours are conducted one Saturday each month. Saturday tours are always at 10 a.m. (unless otherwise noted), and are walking tours. If you are interested in a Saturday tour, please indicate on your reservation form and we will let you know on what Saturday the campus tour will take place. Access to some of the regular tour stops is limited on Saturdays.

Another option is the self-guided tour. The self-guided tour includes a script describing all areas of the regularly guided tour. If you elect to take the self-guided tour, you must check in with University Police upon arrival to the campus. You can pick up a copy of the self-guided tour at University Police, or request one by emailing us at admissions@gram.edu.

How do I request a campus tour?

Once you have selected a tour date, complete a Campus Tour Reservation Form and email it to admissions@gram.edu (DO NOT FAX THE TOUR REQUEST FORM). A cell phone number for the primary contact is required for all tour requests. When the tour has been scheduled, you will receive e-mail confirmation with the date, time of tour, and name of your tour guide. To confirm proper notification of your tour, you must verify that you received the tour confirmation. YOUR TOUR REQUEST IS NOT FINALIZED UNTIL YOU RECEIVE A TOUR CONFIRMATION EMAIL.
