Abstract of Presentation
Recent advances in e-cigarettes (e-cigs) related research has revealed the potential dangers associated with smoking/vaping. The composition of the vapors triggers oxidative stress signals and inflammatory responses. These actions could result in similar pulmonary inflammation and pathologies as those observed by prolonged cigarette smoking. The mechanism of induction of inflammation and oxidative stress on exposure to e-cigs vapor is not completely understood. Further complicating the matter is the fact that a wide variety of flavors of e-liquids (used to fuel e-cigs) are available in the market with varying compositions.
This talk will focus on the work of the Batra group to understand the mechanisms of e-cigs vapor induced inflammation. Also discussed will be the identification of novel therapeutic targets/nutrivention strategies for the better management of vaping associated pathologies.
