Remembering Pinkie Luncheon @ Arcadia Events Center
Mar 14 @ 12:00 pm

Pinkie C. Wilkerson Life Development Center, Inc.
Post Office Box 410 • Grambling, LA 71245

Greetings Grambling, Ruston, and surrounding areas. It is with joy and excitement that the Pinkie Wilkerson Life Development Center invite you to join us on March 14th at 12:00pm for an afternoon of festivities honoring the late great ambassador of social justice, State Representative Pinkie C. Wilkerson.

Who was Pinkie C. Wilkerson you may ask?

Pinkie Carolyn Wilkerson was a woman on a mission. Her task was to cross class, race, and geographic lines because human need has no color, no boundary, and no special place. She served as state representative in the Louisiana Legislature from 1992 until her death in 2000.
Everyone admired this woman on a mission, and her legacy continues. The African-American Bar Association presents an annual “Pinkie C. Wilkerson Outstanding State Legislator of the Year Award” to a deserving recipient. In the city of Grambling, the non-profit foundation, the Pinkie C. Wilkerson Life Development Center, and the State Representative Pinkie C. Wilkerson Memorial Interchange both bear her name. To her family, friends, and constituents, she was a phenomenal woman and always on a mission dedicated to her job.

Tickets for the event are $40 per person. You may also buy a table of 8 for $320. Corporate sponsorships or “Friends of Pinkie” are also available and range from $250 to $5,000. To purchase tickets or to make a donation, please feel free to contact Valena Lane at 318-243-6676 or Nelda Baisy at 318-548-6922.

We appreciate your support and hope to see you on March 14th at the Arcadia Events Center as we celebrate the life and legacy of Pinkie C. Wilkerson at the “Remember Pinkie” Luncheon.

Classes Suspended
Mar 16 – Mar 20 all-day
Consistent with University of Louisiana System mandates, next week’s class suspension aims to support students’ immediate transition off-campus and provide time to invest in the University’s transition to 100% online classes for the remainder of the semester.

Continued University Operations with Heightened Attention to Safety

The shift to online classes will not disrupt regular administrative functions; unless determined by department heads, personnel are expected to report to campus at the usual times.

Campus Dining Continues to Serve Student Needs Throughout the Transition

SodexoMAGIC, Grambling State’s dining provider, is prepared to continue regular 24-hour dining service for students through March 23. Students are urged to observe appropriate social distancing and handwashing consistent with prior prevention instructions.

Students are Encouraged to Depart from Campus by March 23

Campus Living will provide students with support and guidance on housing transitions and other issues related to their departure from campus. The adjusted University academic calendar can be seen at gram.edu; Spring Break will take place as scheduled with no coursework beginning April 3 and online classes resuming April 14.

Graduating Seniors Should Expect to Forgo Spring Commencement

Consistent with CDC guidance for avoiding large gatherings, University administration has cancelled the Spring commencement ceremony. Spring graduates will receive their degree certificates via mail and will have the option to participate in a later ceremony to be scheduled.

“As the ongoing response effort to novel coronavirus puts the nation in uncharted territory, we have made difficult decisions in the interest of public safety,” said President Gallot. “Each semester we all look forward to celebrating the hard work of our students and faculty, so it is very disappointing for all of us to cancel commencement.”

More information on remote learning, campus departure, student support, and campus operations is forthcoming. Students, faculty and staff are encouraged to stay informed on the developing situation by checking University email, text messages, and following official University social media handles.
