From orientation to move-in day, to the first week of classes, I can’t help but reflect on what the campus looked like a year ago. We had a fraction of the student body, had to shift the way we operate and deliver instruction, and find innovative ways to connect. It almost seems surreal to now see a bustling campus that is vibrant with activity when physical attendance was once impossible.

This first week of our ‘new normal’ is a landmark in our progression as an institution. It speaks to our ability to adjust and plays a supporting role in a significant milestone we will commemorate this semester.

The celebration is significant because November 1, 2021 will mark 120 years of educational excellence for Grambling State University! Founder’s day has been observed in September in years past, however, it is imperative that we align the celebration with the day the institution opened its doors.

To that end, I am elated to inform you that dates for the annual celebration will transition to the first week in November each year to honor that historic moment. Furthermore, I am beyond excited to celebrate with you November 1 through November 5, 2021.

As the planning committee works through developing events, it is my hope that you will remain supportive in their endeavors to bring programming that honors the history of Grambling State University and perpetuates its legacy to the next generation.

We have much to be thankful for, reflect upon, and look forward to for Grambling State University. This institution has come so far, surmounted so many obstacles and accomplished so much. The best part is, we’re just getting started.

Here’s to the beginning of a new semester and continued progression at the place where everybody is somebody!
