GRAMBLING, LA – October 24, 2018 – Tonight, 100 Nurses of Louisiana honored two Alumnae of Grambling State University’s School of Nursing for their professional and volunteer contributions.

Honoree: Dr. Staja “Star” Booker, PhD, RN

Booker is a Post-Doctoral Fellow at the Pain Research and Intervention Center of Excellence (PRICE) at the University of Florida . A 2010 Magna cum lade graduate of from GSU’s nursing program, Dr. Booker’s professional and research focus centers on long-term care and geriatrics. Most recently, her academic contributions include modeling culturally-grounded self-management interventions for aging African Americans with osteoarthritis. 

Honoree: Dr. Danita Potter, PhD, RN

Dr. Potter, a 1995 graduate of  Grambling State University, currently serves as Director and professor of the RN-BSN Program at Northwestern University. In addition to her work in the classroom, Dr. Potter serves as a board member for the Northern Louisiana Medical Hospital, International Journal of Caring Sciences, and various other publications and non-profit.

Dr. Potter’s research passion focuses on a variety of African-American issues including HIV and related stigma; teenage motherhood; and improving family care.
