Dr. Cynthia Jackson-Hammond to Keynote Grambling State Founder’s Day Convocation

GRAMBLING, La – September 20, 2019 – Today, Grambling State University announced Central State University’s first woman President and Thurgood Marshall College Fund Board Member Dr. Cynthia Jackson-Hammond will keynote the University’s Founder’s Week Convocation at 11 a.m. on September 24, 2019.  

“Dr. Jackson-Hammond’s work is an example of the impact a public servant can make by leading with purpose and vision,” said President Rick Gallot. “We are grateful to have an alumna of her caliber share as we celebrate those whose visionary work paved the way for today’s success.” 

President Jackson-Hammond’s experience in educational leadership spans more than 30 years and includes faculty status and tenured professorships. Prior to her presidency at Central State, Jackson-Hammond served as Provost at Coppin State University. 

Jackson-Hammond received a doctorate degree in Higher Education from Grambling State University, an Education Specialist degree in Counseling Education from the University of Louisiana-Monroe, a master’s degree in Communications also from the University of Louisiana-Monroe, and a bachelor’s degree from Grambling State University in English and Communications. 

The Convocation is part of the University’s week-long 118th anniversary celebration, which includes a Founder’s Community Breakfast Monday, September 23 (tickets available for $12,) a community bus tour on September 27, and more events. 

Campus and community members are invited to attend this year’s convocation.
