Grambling State Issues Public Challenge to “Look for the Label” for University Support

Trademark Licensing Support Campaign Urges Public to Double-Check Merchandise for Official Holograms

GRAMBLING, La – March 11, 2020 – Today, Grambling State University relaunched its “Look for the Label” campaign, challenging supporters to only purchase licensed Grambling State University apparel and items.

“The continued support of our constituents by only purchasing licensed merchandise has a signification impact at Grambling State University,” said Marc Newman Vice President for Advancement, Research and Economic Development.  Licensing initiatives have generated more revenue in 2018 and 2019 than any other period in the history of the University.  The Look for the Label campaign looks to grow on that success.

Each time fans, alumni, and supporters purchase officially licensed products, the manufacturer returns a portion of that sale to Grambling State University. All officially licensed merchandise will bear a Collegiate Licensing Company (CLC) hologram sticker. This sticker is the consumer’s assurance that their purchase is authentic and supports Grambling State.

Behind the Label: Grambling State University Trademark & Licensing

Managed by the University Office of Advancement, the Grambling State Trademark & License was established to protect the reputation and marks of Grambling State University; to insure that the University receives the appropriate commercial value for the use of its trademarks and to actively enforce the unauthorized use of marks/name and logos of the University.

Through a partnership with CLC, the University aims to positively promote our institution’s image, protect its trademark rights and generate royalty revenue. Royalties help fund university initiatives and provide support for GSU student-athletes.

The Collegiate Licensing Company maintains the official inventory of University names and logos; approves and registers any new marks, logos, etc.; and maintains a list of licensees authorized to manufacture and distribute goods bearing the name, indicia, or logos of Grambling State University.

All of the names, nicknames, trademarks, services marks, seals, logos and mascots which relate to Grambling State or which members of the public reasonably believe relate to the University are owned by Grambling State University.
