To the Williams Family: 

On behalf of the entire Grambling State University family, I want to offer my sincerest condolences on the passing of your mother, Ms. Laura “Shot” Matthews-Williams. In the book of Matthew 7:17, the Bible says, “Every good tree bears good fruit.” The contributions of the Williams family to Grambling State University and African American history speak volumes about the impact of the life of your matriarch and the positive influence of her legacy. We are all benefactors of the great investments she made in Grambling State through all of you.  

As you journey through this difficult time, we encourage you to count the wins of her life that include your success and the success you continue to create for the University. We are forever grateful for her life and will keep you lifted in our thoughts and prayers.
