VAPA Dance department has a long, rich history as the genesis for the Orchesis, the dance majorettes for the “World Famed” marching band of Grambling State University. The academic department is headed by renowned Diane Maroney-Grigsby. Mrs. Grigsby began her professional career with Alvin Ailey Dance Company and performed on tour in numerous cities nationally and globally: on the continents of Africa, Asia, and Europe.

The department offers a concentration in dance as a major and minor. The goal of the Dance concentration is to develop the student’s skills to a level of high quality training by daily teaching of techniques in Ballet, Modern Jazz, Hip Hop, and Tap.  The skills embedded from the techniques will enhance the delivery of a dance student’s performance. This training is consistent with the reputation enjoyed by Grambling State University’s Orchesis Dance Company. Members of the dance company enjoy dance performance beyond the studio. Opportunities abound to perform in local cultural institutions, community events, as well as sports arena.

Dance classes are open to all students.

All Dance concentration Majors and Minors are expected to participate in Orchesis "for professional experience."
