High Ability Program

PROGRAM DESCRIPTION

The High Ability Studies program at Grambling State University provides a forum for gifted scholars in a variety of disciplines associated with the development of the complete student. It is a medium for the promotion of high ability, whether through the communication of scientific research, theory, mathematics, humanities and/or the exchange of practical experience and ideas. The program will not be restricted to the traditional focus on high-level development, but will ensure a hands-on approach in investigating the humanities.

Each component of the High Ability program will seek to actively engage the brain. Interactive programs will be implemented to ensure that each student is involved and included in every aspect of the program. Active learning strategies and projects for engaging students with multiple intelligences will be introduced.

The 2016 Summer Program promises to be one of the most enlightening and successful programs in the more than 25 years since the program was initiated and  housed on the campus of Grambling State University. GSU has always been a beacon of light in education. For many years the University has held the torch of excellence and continues to do so in the education community.  This summer the High Ability program will focus on comprehensive mathematics, science, and humanities. Mathematics classes will be taught in Carver Hall, a state-of-the-art facility for science and mathematics. Advanced English and literature classes will be conducted in Carter G. Woodson. The humanities (music, speech and drama) classes will be held in the new Conrad Hutchinson Center of Performing Arts. Also, art classes will be held in the Dunbar Hall annex.

Students will experience many aspects of college life: housing in one of the beautiful modern dormitories, dining in the McCall Cafeteria, the use of the Intramural Center for exercise, fun, and games. Student will be able to experience many of the social aspects of university living in a safe and controlled environment.
