Grambling State Appoints Vice President of Academic Affairs and Provost

GRAMBLING, La. – December 9, 2019 – Following a national search, Grambling State University has announced that Interim Provost Dr. Connie Walton has been appointed to the role of Vice President of Academic Affairs and Provost. 

“Dr. Walton’s successes in the classroom, in sponsored programs, and in her accreditation work have set the pace for our steady academic growth,” said President Gallot. “We are grateful for her continued commitment to our students’ academic progress.” 

Since being named interim in May, Dr. Walton has led the Division of Academic Affairs and the University’s preparation for accreditation reaffirmation through the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC). Dr. Walton previously served as Provost and SACSCOC liaison, as well as Director of Sponsored Programs.  

“It’s exciting to enter another SACSCOC accreditation cycle with so many new programs for student success and support,” said Dr. Walton. “We are motivated by the high performance of our existing programming and looking forward to building on Grambling State’s firm academic foundation.” 

About Dr. Connie Walton 

Dr. Walton earned her Ph.D. in chemistry from the University of Southern Mississippi. She is a co-inventor on two U.S. Patents and one German Patent Application. She also has served as principal investigator on grant funded projects received from NASA, NSF, and the U.S. Department of Education. Her research includes the synthesis of biodegradable polymers and the characterization of their properties.
