GSU Black & Gold Weekend

Join Grambling State University this weekend as we celebrate “Black & Gold” weekend! Beginning on March 20, Grambling will hold a variety of activities for people of all ages and interests. From football to the football wives masquerade ball and Hackathon to a beauty pageant, GSU is the place to be this weekend!

“Black & Gold” weekend will begin on Friday, March 20 with the Hack-A-Thon, an intense event where student teams use their coding, and design and business skills to build software and mobile apps all in one weekend! The Hack-A-Thon, which is sponsored by AT&T, will begin at 5 pm Friday and end Sunday afternoon. If you are interested in participating go to www.hbcuhacks.com/grambling to register.

Friday night will bring your last chance to watch the Department of Visual and Performing Arts production of, “The Bad Seed,” by Maxwell Anderson. The performance begins at 7 p.m. at the Floyd L. Sandle Theatre, located in the Conrad Hutchinson Performing Arts Center. Tickets are $3 for students and $5 for the general public.

For High School and transferring students who are interested in attending Grambling State University, Saturday, March 21 is “Spring Preview & Transfer Day 2015.” Potential Tigers will go on campus tours, learn about GSU’s academic programs and ways to increase academic test scores, meet the admissions, recruitment and financial aid team, and enjoy the Black and Gold football game.

The Black and Gold football game will give you an early chance to catch the fighting Tigers in action during a spring preview game held at 2:30 p.m. on Saturday at Robinson Memorial Stadium. Half-time will feature a chance to see if GSU’s former football stars still have what it takes in a special scrimmage match of flag football between returning alumni.

After an exciting afternoon of football, Saturday night will feature two glamorous events. The 47th Annual Miss Calendar Girl Scholarship Pageant will be held at 7 p.m. in the T.H. Harris Auditorium.

Grambling’s football wives will host the Golden Masquerade Ball at 7 p.m. in the Hobdy Assembly Center. The ball will feature an evening of dinner and dancing with the proceeds benefitting Grambling student athletes. Tickets are $60 each or $450 for a table. Contact 318-274-2217 for more information.

This exciting weekend of events will end with the Hack-A-Thon’s presentation of projects, where student teams will present their software and mobile app creations, and prizes will be awarded to the top teams. The presentation will be held from 3:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. in room 319 at the Jacob T. Stewart Building.
