GSU Orchestra


Mr. Ye Tao is an assistant professor of music at Grambling State University. A native of Shenyang, China, he received the bachelor’s degree in violin performance from the Shanghai Conservatory of Music. While he was in China, he was concertmasters of the Liaoning Symphony Orchestra, Opera House, and Ballet Company. He also has made recital appearances throughout his native China including a recital at the Beijing Concert Hall. He has also appeared as recitalist in Europe, including an acclaimed recital in Italy:

His latest solo appearances were in Caribbean island country of the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago with the university choir in 2005.

Mr. Tao came to the United States as a visiting scholar in 1989 and studied at the University of Southern California. He arrived in Louisiana in 1991, and received Master of Music degrees in violin performance and in conducting from the University of Louisiana, Monroe.

He has appeared as recitalist in the concert sponsored by Monroe Symphony orchestra, Twin City Ballet, and the Little Theater, he also played with the Ruston Civic Orchestra as a soloist.

As an orchestral musician, he has played in many orchestras in the States including: Arkansas Symphony orchestra, South Arkansas Symphony Orchestra, Pine Bluff Symphony Orchestra, Shreveport Symphony Orchestra, Monroe Symphony Orchestra, Rapids Symphony Orchestra, Lake Charles Symphony Orchestra, Longview Symphony Orchestra, Texarkana Symphony orchestra, Delta Symphony Orchestra, Long Beach Ballet Orchestra, Torrance Symphony Orchestra, Santa Monica Symphony Orchestra, Santa Ana Symphony Orchestra, and Palm Spring Pop Orchestra.

In Louisiana, he has taught in the public schools, and was director of the Monroe Youth Symphony for three years. He joined the Grambling music faculty in 1996, where he serves as Director of Orchestral Activities, teaches Applied Strings, Music Appreciation, Introduction to Fine & Performing arts, and String Method classes.

Mr. Tao was elected as the chairman of Orchestra Division and Louisiana all-State Orchestra of Louisiana music educator Association, and selected as American String Teacher Association Louisiana State chapter president in 2008.
His name is on the Who’s Who: The Best American Teachers Selected by the Best Students, 1996 edition.
