I'm Dr. Robert Oliver III, Ph.D., PLPC born and raised in Shreveport, LA and a pride product of the Queensborough community.
A little about myself. I am a graduate of C.E. Byrd High School where I played in the band that later got me a scholarship to be in the band the Grambling State University. While at GSU I was a member of the World Famed Tiger Marching Band. During my time at GSU, I experienced and learned a great many things, one being students should always strive for greatness. I graduated from Grambling with a B.S. in Biology and went straight into my field of research at LSUHSC in Shreveport. Later I found my passion for counseling, so I went back to Grambling and received an M.S. in Guidance and Counseling and later another M.A. in Mental Health Counseling from Walden University. But I wasn't finished, I truly wanted to educate individuals, so I got my Ph.D. from Capella University and here I am today. Currently I also work as a Mental Health Counselor at Superior Counseling Services, LLC here in Shreveport, LA.
To Educate, Encourage, and Empower is the foundation of my teaching philosophy. As an Instructor of Psychology, I have a unique opportunity to connect with students on a deeper level, a level that is beyond instruction. It’s a teacher-student connection that promotes self-evolution. I have developed this connection through (1) educating students beyond the classroom, (2) encouraging students by providing support and instilling self-confidence, and (3) empowering students to become the best version of themselves personally and professionally. My teaching philosophy is a replica of my personal and professional views as a student and educator. I am committed to inspiring students beyond the classroom through instructional innovation, educational research, and professional development.
I have been married for over 20 years and have one daughter. I am a member of Omega Phi Psi, Inc and the GSU World Famed Alumni Band and the GSU Alumni Association.
I look forward to continuing to gain knowledge in this wonderful field of Psychology and as I always say, "Keep Moving Forward!"
