The primary mission of the Visual Arts is to provide opportunities that prepare graduates to compete and succeed in art and art related careers, as well as preparation for entry into graduate art programs. We strive to create an environment that nurtures creative vision and allows exploration of individual artistic expression. While presenting a course of study that embraces diversity in the world of art, the Department of Visual & Performing Arts is dedicated to the promotion and preservation of the art and culture of African Americans. Our secondary mission of the is to promote aesthetic appreciation for the formal aspects of art while contributions the cultural environment of the university and the surrounding community by offering courses, exhibitions, lectures, and other experiences that enhance the quality of life for all persons. This is facilitated in part with a program of 6-8 exhibitions, which are hosted every academic year. The Visual Arts area is located at 407 Central Ave, the former Lincoln Preparatory School building.
