Where talent opens doors—on stage, across the country, and beyond graduation.

A Movement Beyond Music

At Grambling State University, the University Concert Choir is more than just music—it’s a movement. A space where culture, tradition, and excellence converge, shaping not just voices but futures. Choir members don’t just perform; they become part of a legacy that carries forward the spirit of HBCU greatness. For 75 years, the choir has been a pillar of cultural expression and artistic distinction.

“The University Concert Choir is more than just a group—it’s a movement. Students who join are committing to something far greater than themselves," said Dr. Cordara Harper, GSU Choir Director & HBCU Alum:  "This is about culture, history, and excellence. As a former choir student, I was inspired by my first Black choral conductor, and now I have the privilege of standing before incredible students each week, continuing this tradition of impact and empowerment.”

From First Note to Forever Impact

“Consider joining the University Concert Choir because it’s not just about singing—it’s about expanding your knowledge of music theory, harmony, structure, and vocal techniques. More importantly, it’s about fostering connections with students from different walks of life, creating a safe space to express yourself, and building a sense of community. It’s a place where you can grow not only as a musician but as a person.”

- Faragi Shabazz

“Joining the choir is a chance to grow as a musician. You get to connect with other talented individuals, expand your range of experiences, and diversify your musical skills. The performances, the travel, and the community all come together to make you a more well-rounded musician and person.”
- Michael Ridgell

"The University Concert Choir offers a sense of community, bringing together individuals who share similar passions and experiences. It’s an opportunity to connect with others in a meaningful way. Plus, it provides a unique musical experience that stands apart from any choirs they may have been part of before, helping them grow both as performers and individuals."

- Ashanti Tatum

“Being in the choir helps you develop life skills that go far beyond music. Communication, leadership, and self-awareness are all cultivated in this space. It’s an experience that shapes you as an individual, and prepares you for success in all areas of life.”
