Dr. Gayberyl Wesley Shyne is an Assistant Professor, Master of Social Work Admissions Coordinator, Licensed Clinical Social Worker, Licensed Addiction Counselor-Certified Clinical Supervisor, Internationally Certified Advanced Alcohol and Drug Counselor, Certified Compulsive Gambling Counselor, and Licensed Master Life Coach. Dr. Shyne joined the Grambling State University faculty in 2019 and serves on the Faculty Senate. Dr. Shyne has a Bachelor of Business Administration (University of Louisiana-Monroe), Master of Social Work (Grambling State University), Doctor of Social Work (Capella University), Bachelor of Theology and Religious Studies (Hope Bible Institute), and a Diploma in Leadership (Rhema Leadership Institute). Some of her social work experiences are in academia, child welfare, mental health, and substance abuse. Her primary teaching areas are human behavior in the social environment and research. Her research focus is on culturally relevant strategies that support student retention of Black males in higher education. Her teaching philosophy is to create student-centered learning environments where the student is in the driving seat of their own learning.
