
Professor Kristen B. Pleasant is a licensed attorney with the Louisiana State Bar Association and a dedicated educator at Grambling State University’s College of Business. She holds a Bachelor of Science in Criminal Justice from Southern University and A&M College and a Juris Doctor from Southern University Law Center, where she graduated Cum Laude. With a career spanning academia and legal practice, Professor Pleasant brings a wealth of real-world expertise to her teaching and research. Her professional experience includes roles as a Solo Practitioner at Kristen B. Pleasant & Associates, PLLC, and as an Assistant City Prosecutor for the City of Monroe.
Professor Pleasant teaches courses in the legal aspects of business, including General Business 201: Legal Environment, Law of Contracts, and Basic Civil Procedure. Her teaching philosophy emphasizes practical applications of legal principles to prepare students for the complexities of the global business environment. She previously served as a Teaching Assistant at Southern University Law Center and has been an Instructor of Management and Marketing at Grambling State University since 2009.
Her scholarly work focuses on the intersection of law, economics, and social justice, with a particular emphasis on the correlation between poverty and the African-American community in the United States. She explores how current economic conditions disproportionately impact marginalized groups. Additionally, she is interested in contractual law and its implications for business practices.
Professor Pleasant is deeply committed to university and community service. She has contributed to drafting Grambling State University’s Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB) Fifth Year Maintenance Report and assisted in restructuring the College of Business Mission Statement. Beyond academia, she volunteers with Prevailing Faith Ministries in drug outreach programs and supports after-school initiatives for low-income children. She is an active member of the Louisiana State Bar Association and the American Bar Association.
