Typical and atypical students are entering colleges in larger numbers. The cultural mix and students with more diverse backgrounds and expectations are enrolling at GSU. New directions, knowledge, technology, social and emotional skills impact the need for a greater sense of self-direction and a broad perspective. The New directions in education are challenging fixed, traditional, curricular offerings and approaches in teaching and learning in universities today.

Educators at Grambling State University are aware that they must prepare to meet the challenge of education for the 21st Century. Flexible academic programs, non-traditional approaches, new tools and techniueques for learning in the classroom and greater sensitivity to learners as people, must be the focus at GSU in the 21st Century. The Honors College operates as a college-wide academic support unit, a strength and a means of bridging the gap. The belief is that the Honors College, its unique program thrusts, its mission and educational strategies support the vision, emerging needs and new directions of the university for the future.
