What is Art?

Mission:

The primary mission of the Department of Art is to provide opportunities that prepare graduates to compete and succeed in art and art related careers, as well as preparation for entry into graduate art programs. The Art Department strives to create an environment that nurtures creative vision and allows exploration of individual artistic expression. While presenting a course of study that embraces diversity in the world of art, the Department of Art is dedicated to the promotion and preservation of the art and culture of African Americans. The secondary mission of the Art Department is to promote aesthetic appreciation for the formal aspects of art while contributions the cultural environment of the university and the surrounding community by offering courses, exhibitions, lectures, and other experiences that enhance the quality of life for all persons.
