Department of Visual and Performing Arts Facilities

The department offers performance spaces in the Conrad Hutchinson Performing Arts Center (PAC) building. Named after its’ beloved and long term former chair, Dr. Floyd L. Sandle, the F.L Sandle Theatre is our main stage proscenium performance space. It seats 225 and features an accessible seating area for wheelchair users.

A more recent addition is the The Karl V. Norman Studio Theatre, a smaller more intimate performance space that seats 60. The space is for experimental works, works created by student playwrights, and Student One-act plays.

Department productions are supported by a fully operative scene shop, fully equipped costume shop lab, and two chorus-style dressing rooms.

Dance, the program which is the gateway to the renowned Orchesis Dance Company, is supported by a dance studio housed in the PAC. Additional larger rehearsal spaces are housed in the Assembly Center.

Visual Arts has a ceramics studio, drawing studio, painting studio, additional studios and classroom space. Student artists are supported with technology that includes: two Mac labs, a large format printer, and a 3D area. The 3D area features a range of Makerbot 3D printers, a Glowforge laser printer, a Ricoh ceramics printer, and a Shaper CNC router station.

Gallery space for student artists’ exhibitions are housed in the Lab school building.  Additional exhibition space is located in the Student Union and in pop-up locations when advertised.
